1. Can the keratin treatment be used on any type of hair?
Yes, it may be used on any type of hair, including virgin (untreated), coloured, bleached, highlighted, permed, treated, afro, coarse, fine, dry, normal or greasy. Results may vary.
2. Can the keratin treatment be used after colouring, lightening or highlighting?
Yes, the treatment can be used immediately after colouring, bleaching or highlighting hair.
3. Can hair be coloured, bleached or highlighted after the keratin treatment?
Yes, but we recommend waiting at least two weeks after the keratin treatment.
4. Can the keratin treatment be used on hair that has previously been straightened?
Yes, it may be used on hair that has previously been straightened or has undergone any type of treatment, provided the hair is in reasonably healthy condition.
5. Can the keratin treatment cause hair damage?
The product itself is deeply conditioning, so if the instructions are followed and common sense is applied, hair damage is very unlikely. The only risk of brittle or damaged hair is from excess heat, e.g. the straightening irons are too hot or too many repetitions, so please watch for this.
6. What should I do if I experience sensitivity or a reaction?
You must immediately stop the treatment and wash the product out using regular shampoo.
7. Is the keratin treatment suitable for children?
We do not recommend it is used by or on children under 12 years of age, because children are more sensitive than adults.
8. Is the keratin treatment suitable for pregnant or nursing women?
We do not recommend it is used by or on pregnant or nursing women, because babies are far more sensitive than adults.
9. How long does the treatment take?
It takes 1 to 3 hours to apply and set the treatment, depending on the length of hair and your skill level. The hair must then be kept straight and dry (do not wash hair or apply any styling products) for 3 days afterwards. Then the hair can be washed and the treatment is complete.
10. What should I do if my hair gets wet or kinked in the first three days after the treatment?
Dry and re-straighten your hair as quickly as possible using a blow dryer and hot hair irons.
11. How long must I wait after the keratin treatment to wash my hair?
You must wait 3 full days (72 hours) after applying the treatment before washing your hair.
12. Can I use dry shampoo during the first 3 days?
Yes, you may use dry shampoo once during the first 3 days, if your hair becomes greasy.
13. Does using more product or leaving it on the hair for more than 3 days give better results?
No, using more product only creates more fumes as the excess product burns off, and there is no benefit in leaving the product on the hair for more than 3 days.
14. Can the keratin treatment be used to reduce frizz but keep my curls?
No, the treatment will only work if hot hair straightening irons are used, as directed.
15. Are the effects of the keratin treatment permanent?
The effects of the keratin treatment are semi-permanent; typically lasting around 3 months, after which the treatment will need to be repeated.
16. Do I have to use a special shampoo or conditioner after the keratin treatment?
Aftercare shampoo and conditioner must be salt-free (i.e. not contain Sodium Chloride). Most conditioners are salt-free, but most shampoos DO contain Sodium Chloride, so please check the label carefully before purchase or use. Please note that Sodium Lauryl Sulphate and Sodium Laureth Sulphate are OK, it is just Sodium Chloride that must be avoided. Salt-free shampoo must be used on an on-going basis to maintain the treatment for up to 3 months because salt (Sodium Chloride) will cause the keratin treatment to wash out prematurely.
17. Can I go in the sea after using the keratin treatment?
Yes, but the salt water will make the treatment wash out sooner, so limit your hair’s exposure to sea water and rinse with fresh water immediately afterwards.
18. Can I go in the swimming pool after using the keratin treatment?
Yes, but the chlorine in the water may make the treatment wash out sooner, so limit your hair’s exposure to chlorinated water and rinse with fresh water immediately afterwards.
19. Will I still need to style my hair every day?
You may wish to blow dry or straighten your hair with hot irons, but styling time will be substantially reduced. Do not use Salt Spray or other styling products that contain salt
(Sodium Chloride).
